Slánská hora - a hill, which is a
dominant feature of the town Slany, represents together with nearby
hill called Vinarická hora, the Ríp Mountain and the range of Czech
Highland residue of dramatic volcanic activity related to
orogenetic process in the Tertiary period. Basalt mass of Slánská
hora horal belongs to the well known prehistoric sites of the
European significance. It is evidence of settlement from the
beginning of the late Stone Age, over the Bronze Age, Iron Age
until to the Slavonic period. The latest findings originate from
the Middle Ages, from 15 - 16 centuries when vineyards spread out
on the Slánská hora slopes. In consequence of volcanic activity the
springs of high-grade salt water occurred and gave the name to the
hill and the town founded at its foot. However, the springs have
not come down to present time and their existence is known only
from the chronicles. The whole hill consists of the basalt columns
eroded by erosive activity effecting for ages. In 1999 hundreds of
bushes and leafy trees were planted in the middle of the previous
quarry. There is a beautiful view of the town and nearby
surroundings from the hill. Another interest of the Slánská hora is
a stone locally called Devil´s Stone whose mineral structure is
different from the hill structure, consisting of basalt. In 1998
Slanská hora was declared to be a protected natural monument, The
aim if protection is to preserve significant geologic site and to
protect the fragments of rock steppe winth warm-requiring plants
and hombeam association with singing birds. Monument is located in
cadastral territory Slany and its size is 2.2339
hectares.

Slánská hora, dominanta mesto
Slaného, predstavuje spolecne s nedalekou Vinarickou horou, Rípem a
kulisou Ceského stredohorí pozustatky bourlivé sopecné cinnosti,
související s horotvornými procesy tretihor. Cedicový masiv Slánské
hory patrí mezi známá archeologická nalezište evropského významu.
Dokládá osídlení od pocátku pozdní doby kamenné pres dobu
bronzovou, železnou až do doby slovanské. Nejmladší nálezy
pocházejí ze stredoveku 15.-16. století, kdy se na svazích Slánské
hory rozkládaly vinice. Velmi zajímavým výsledkem sopecné cinnosti
byl výskyt pramenu slané vody znacné intenzity, který vedl k
pojmenování hory i mesta, založeného na jejím úpatí. Slané prameny
se však do dnešní doby nezachovaly , o jejich existenci se lze
docíst pouze ze zpráv kronikáru. Celá hora je složena ze sloupcu
cedice, rozrušených vekem erozními vlivy. Uprostred bývalého lomu
bylo na podzim roku 1999 vysázeno nekolik se stromu a keru prevážne
listnatého charakteru. Z hory je krásný rozhled na mesto a jeho
nejbližší okolí. Zajímavostí hory je tzv. místne zvaný Certuv
kámen, jehož hornina je zcela jiného složení než Slánská hora,
tvorená cedicem. Slánská hora byla v únoru 1998 vyhlášena prírodní
památkou. Posláním ochrany není jenom zachování významné geologické
lokality, ale i ochrana fragmentu skalních stepí s teplomilnou
kvetenou a prirozeného lesního spolecenstva habrových doubrav a
zpevného ptactva. Památka se nachází v k.ú. Slaný a její
rozloha ciní 2.2339ha.
