Geocache Description:

Along Highway 89 south of Livingston, MT sits a tiny white chapel. The chapel was built in 1968 and had once sat on a small hilltop overlooking Yellowstone River adjacent to the rest area on US Hwy 89. It’s been a landmark as well as a curiosity. The chapel is always open providing shelter and a resting place for weary travelers. Several weddings have also been performed in the chapel.

Over the years, the chapel has had several names. Wayside Chapel was its first name given by the builders. Several years ago the chapel was moved to Emigrant and has been known as the Paradise Valley Chapel. The sign out front says ‘Meditation Point’ and that is the name more commonly known with the locals.

The chapel is 12 foot tall including its steeple; the building is 10-by-14 foot with stained glass side windows. There are eight wooden seats facing a white cross on the pulpit. Behind the cross is a large glass window overlooking the Yellowstone River and Emigrant Peak (10,915 feet).

Inside the chapel, the sound of the heavily traveled highway traffic and Paradise Valley’s howling winds are muffled. An open journal can be found inside telling the story of the chapel’s popularity.

This is an easy park & grab. Please replace the cache as found for others to enjoy.
