Wadi Abd el-Malik is one of three large wadis in the norther Gilf Kebir in the Libyan or Uwaynat Desert aprox 200 ms north of the corner where the Sudanese, Libyan und Egyptian borders meet. The cache is hidden in a rock fisure in an overwhelming landscape.
When Laszlo Count Almassy, the "English Patient" discovered the Cave of the Swimmers he also explored Wadi Abd el-Malik. The found lots of acadia tress and caves with drawings of longhorn cattle, men, and a prehistoric dwelling. Almassy and his friends believed that they had found the legendary "lost oasis" of Zerzura.
The cache is a water bottle (the only container I had) and it contains some things (more or less useful in desert): 1 Egyptian pound, sewing kit, shoe cleaning set, a picture of Almasy, tea bag, a cigarette, pocket lighter.
Be aware that going there needs a permit by the Egyptian authorities. Careful planning and an experienced guide are essential. This part of the desert ist the driest desert on earth and, according to some writers, because of its remoteness "probably one of the most dangerous places on earth" (Cassandra Vivian). But going there is a trip of a lifetime.
