A flash mob happens when a crowd assembles suddenly and performs a brief, odd act, then quickly disperses. Here's how this one will work: Arrive near the Yuma Palms Regional Center traffic roundabout (within the restaurant area) about 5:15 p.m. Bring a dollar bill, or better yet, a larger denomination with you and wear a green or white shirt. (If you don't have one, come and participate anyway. Or come early and buy a Mega Event T-shirt or pick up a pre-ordered shirt. (See the Mega Event website for ordering.) Shirts will be available near the roundabout at 5:00 p.m.
Please stay out of the roundabout until the music starts at about 5:30 p.m. Be nonchalant, and try not to cluster in a large group. Small groups are fine; meet your fellow cachers!
When the music starts, enter the roundabout and wave your greenbacks high in the air in time with the music. At the sound of a whistle, the music will change. Quickly get in the nearest conga line, put your left hand on the shoulder of the person ahead of you, and follow the leader (with the big bucks). The dance goes like this: Step-step-step-kick, step-step-step-kick, etc. Each time you kick, flash the cash in the air. Continue until the song ends.
When the tune ends, quickly step out of the traffic roundabout (important!). You'll then have a choice: You can pocket your money or you can deposit it in the well-marked container near the roundabout for donation to the Yuma Community Food Bank. (Look for the conga leaders waving their big bucks, if you can't easily see the container.) A representative of the food bank will be invited to attend the flash mob event and will be given the cash in a short public ceremony following the flash mob.
There are many excellent restaurants in the mall area, so enjoy dinner with your new (or long-time) friends. If you plan to attend the Mega Event GSAK presentation later that evening, there is a restaurant at that venue, too.
