Just north of the downtown of Kent, CT, Angels of Iron geocache brings you to an interesting location nestled between State route 7 and the Housatonic River.
During the warmer months of the year take a little time to check out the three main attractions: The Sloane Museum (featuring work and history of Eric Sloane), the Kent Furnace, and the Connecticut Machinery Association (old steam trains and more).
Instructions to find the Final (a container like a lock n' lock) are as follows:
There is an old black steam engine at the entrance off of Route 7. The number on its nose is X.
Walk north alongside the mini train track until you get to a second, more rundown, black steam engine. The number on its nose is Y.
Compute the Stage 1 coordinates as:
N41. 44.3[Y]
W073 28.2[7*x]
Theoretical Example: IF X=11 and Y=8 then coordinates are N41 44.308, W073 28.277.
Stage 1 is the start of a trail marked by what's left of old blue splotches on the occasional tree.
Just follow the trail to Stage 2 which is an obvious wooden post with 5 over 6. So long as you stick to the trail you can't miss Stage 2. For the Final location you need to project (from Stage 2) 63 meters at 36 degrees.
As you make your way to the Final hiding spot be careful not to slide down into the Housatonic river. This is particularly true in the winter when there is the threat of slippery ice and snow. Once you have signed the log and made any trades please securely close the container and replace in its spot.
