Geocache Description:

GAGB 2017 CITO Weekend

This is just one of the many events to be be held across the UK, Ireland, Isle of Man and Channel Islands as part of the GAGB Annual CITO weekend, which this year is concentrating on the conservational side of CITO.

Ant & Sharon cordially invite you to help 'give back' to the environment and community in which we cache.

Gentleshaw Common

Cannock Wood, Staffordshire

WS15 4NG

Sunday 24th September 10am until 12pm

Gentleshaw common is one of the largest areas of heathland in Staffordshire. SWT have recently taken over management of the common, and have an aim to return it to the natural state. Today our conservation task will focus on helping to conserve the heath by cutting back scrub. This will, in due course, encourage the heather to grow back. We will also have teams travelling along the footpaths and nearby locations to pick litter

Wear sturdy footwear and long (sturdy) sleeves to avoid scratches. Sharant will supply a handful of litter pickers and our seemingly-endless collection of study builders'-grade gloves, but especially if you have smaller hands do bring your own gardening (or goalie!) gloves.

Meet at the main coordinates at the kickoff (10am) and we'll split into teams. We'll have a safety briefing and off we go - there is parking here for 10 cars, refer to waypoints for additional parking.

Dogs to be kept under close control, ideally on a lead.

We will be here the whole time, and GAGB ask that you dedicate at least a couple of hours to this, to 'earn' your smilie, but rest assured that CITOs are a lot of fun, and there's eight geocaches in and around here anyway!
We'll pose with a photo at the start and the end.

The GAGB

CITO LogoThe Geocaching Association of Great Britain (GAGB). The Association was established in 2003 to provide a national geocaching organisation and serve as a UK point of contact for geocachers, landowners, the media and others with an interest in geocaching.

As part of its 10th anniversary, GAGB decided to hold a CITO weekend in September which has now become an annual event. It would be great to see more of these icons pop up across the country and for other members to hold their own events where it is not feasible to attend one that a committee member has organised.

There is a lot more information about what we do, including the landowner database, comprehensive event listings and forums at www.gagb.org.uk. If you would like to get involved follow the link and find our contact details.

The GAGB are encouraging everyone to organise CITO events this weekend, in part to pay-back for what we hope will have been a great summer of caching, and also to make things more pleasant for future cachers. If this CITO is the nearest one to you, please come along!
