Geocache Description:

Because of all the trees, I get wildly different coordinates every time I visit this cache but just stay on the trail, use the hint, and you'll find the cache.

Quilts On the Beach

Cama Beach Resort opened in 1934 and was a family-run business until 1989. The quaint cabins have always been an iconic symbol of Cama and the handmade quilts found on every bed soon became another Cama tradition.

Almost as soon as islanders knew Cama would become a state park a number of local quilters offered to make new, but historically themed quilts for the cabins. Soon known as the Cama Beach Quilters, they hoped to have 100 quilts completed by June 2008, the grand opening of Cama Beach State Park. That goal was achieved well in advance of the park’s first day and as of January 2016 more than 270 quilts have been created.

The Quilters continue to create new quilts and their “quilting bees” are usually on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at Cama Center. They welcome visitors.

To view some of the finished quilts, stop by the Cama Center and the Cama Welcome Center.

The photos below were taken during the annual "Quilts On The Beach" show which is normally the last Saturday of July.

Finding the cache:

  • This cache is along a nice, mostly flat trail within the park.
  • No need for your toes to leave the trail to find the cache.
  • The container has room for small “treasure” and travel bugs. If you take a piece of treasure please leave something of equal or greater value in return. Also make sure the “treasure” you keep is not a “travel bug” (they are meant to be moved from cache to cache).
  • Please rehide the cache as well or better than when you found it.
  • It is always a good idea to have a pencil or pen with you.
  • You’ll need a Discover Pass if you plan to park within Cama Beach State Park.
  • Please let me know if there are problems with either the cache or its coordinates.

Congrats to "yellow1961" and "DadwithTools" for earning the First to Find honors.
