Située dans le quartier Saint-Marcel, cette église moderne et discrète étonne par son pignon triangulaire donnant sur la rue et, à l'arrière, son petit clocher pyramidal, coiffé d'un coq. Elle a été construite en 1966 à l'emplacement de l'église Saint-Marcel-de-la-Salpêtrière qui tombait en ruine. Le vitrail de la rue a été ajouté plus tard, en 1993.
Elle contient les reliques de Marcel, 3e évêque de Paris au 4e siècle, dont le tombeau était proche de ce lieu. Cet évêque, qui est l'un des 3 saint protecteur de Paris avec Saint Denis et Sainte Geneviève n'a pas eu la chance de mourir en martyr, alors on lui a bâti une légende : il aurait vaincu d'un coup de crosse un dragon (ou un gros serpent sorti du marais de Bièvre suivant les sources) qui terrorisait Paris en dévorant les filles de mauvaises vie. Les manga japonais n'ont rien inventé !
C'est aujourd'hui une église paroissiale en activité.
English: Located in the Saint-Marcel area, this modern church and discreet is strange by its triangular gable facing the street and in the back, this small pyramidal tower, topped by a rooster. It was built in 1966 in the church's location Saint-Marcel-de-la-Salpêtrière who was falling into ruins. The stained-glass window of the street was added later in 1993.
