Geocache Description:

Watching my son walk across the stage to accept his high school diploma is the inspiration of this full sized cache.

Cap and Gown is a celebration of all those high school seniors who worked (slaved?) and struggled between the rules of their school, the law of their parents, and the temptation that surround us to accomplish the task of obtaining their high school diplomas. We sat today at this spot (well, this facility, not at the spot where the cache is located) and enjoyed, thrilled and teared up as we watched my son accept his high school diploma from Lakewood Ranch High School. After a good luncheon we were off to enjoy the Manatee High School graduation ceremony, too. Quite an accomplishment for both classes, and glad we got to see them both.

This cache was in celebration of that accomplishment. It is a camoed decon container to celebrate the Class of ’06!!! There is some small trading room and the cache is pre-stocked with a few various trading items. There is no pen inside so be sure to bring your own.

Also included in the container is the coordinates to two bonus caches, Go Mustangs and Go Hurricanes to celebrate the Class of 2006 at Lakewood Ranch High School (the Mustangs) and Manatee High School (the Hurricanes). This is the only way to get the cords for these two bonus caches. Please do NOT remove the bonus cache coordinate markers from the cache and do not get the north and west cords mixed up. There is a way to get to this without anything but very minor bushwhacking so take your time and look around before you charge thru the brush. There may be muggles around so please use your stealth and camo this back as good as you found it.

Enjoy the cache and celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2006. It’s their world around the corner, lets be sure we leave them a good one!

Thanks for the congratulations we received and enjoy the hunt.

A historical perspective about this location from The 5 hobos
---------------------------------------------------
A little history lesson here. The cache is placed on top of the old Seaboard Air Line Railroad Right-of-Way. The line was laid in 1903 and was the fisrt railroad to open up Sarasota and Manatee Counties to the nation. The line was abandoned in the late seventies after the Seaboard Air Line merged with the Atlantic Coast Line in 1967.

Enjoy! ~IMPG~

NOTE: The proper coords for the bonus caches was added to the cache today as a laminated sheet with the coords. Also added to the cache was a small baggie with small grab sheets with the printed coords for the bonus caches on them so you no longer have to write the coords down, just grab a sheet (but please do NOT take the laminated coord page). And also, this cache was totally exposed when I checked on it so PLEASE rehide as well as you found it, there are muggle eyes around!!! Thanks!
