Geocache Description:

This is an excellent opportunity to

  • meet other like minded geocachers
  • help keep an amazing place clean and tidy for all to enjoy
  • earn a CITO certificate on your geocahing profile.

We will meet at the FC Braveheart Carpark just up the Nevis vistors centre. I have been working with Friends of Nevis;FoN and the Nevis Landscape Partnership NLP to establish the most benificial area for a CITO event.

Friends of Nevis are providing litter pickers and high vis jackets as required.

Fort William and Glen Nevis have many visitors a year and this is both a blessing and a curse. The curse is the amount of rubbish that is left behind. This is cleaned by the council, with the help of volunteers from FoN and NLP. So every bit of help is greatly appreciated.

The rough plan is to meet up at the BRAVEHEART car park at 11.00 and clean from 11 to 12.30 with a break at 12.30 to 1 and then an afternoon slot from 1pm to 2pm. During the break I will supply hot drinks and cakes, please bring your own lunch. Please come when you can. I would be grateful if you let me know roughly when for planning to come so I can plan.

The car park itself was as a direct result of the filming of the movie, Braveheart starring Mel Gibson (hence the name of the event). The film crew wanted an area in the forest to park the their film units, including Mel's 'Winabago' and thus Braveheart Car Park was born. There is parking for 34 vehicles and has a height restriction barrier at the entrance.(1.9m)There is an interpretation panel within the car park for orientation and walk information.

This is part of a national UK CITO weekend Sept 23/24, within Groundspeak's global CITO week. see MORE ABOUT GAGB for more information.
