The second Salpausselkä ridge is a recessional moraine that was
formed at the end of the last ice age when the retreat of the
glacier paused for an extended period of time causing the debris
carried by the ice to accumulate at the edge of the glacier.
Sometimes large blocks of ice got buried inside the debris and
large potholes, called kettles were formed when the ice blocks
eventually melted.
From this cache you can admire these wonderful works of nature.
The cache is located on top of Aurinkovuori, which is part of the
second Salpausselkä ridge and from the cache there is a great view
to a kettle below. You can get to the cache along the sawdust
tracks circling around Aurinkovuori. In the winter you should not
tread on the skiing tracks.
Toinen Salpausselkä on jääkauden aikainen reunamuodostuma, joka
syntyi kun jäätikön vetäytyminen pysähtyi pitkäksi aikaa
paikoilleen ja jään kuljettama maa-aines kertyi jäätikön reunan
tuntumaan. Joskus suuria jäälohkareita peittyi reunamuodostuman
sisään ja lohkareiden sulaessa jäljelle jäi suuria kuoppia, joita
kutsutaan nimellä suppa.
Tältä kätköltä voit ihailla näitä luonnon ihmeitä. Kätkö on
Aurinkovuoren päällä, joka on osa toista Salpausselkää, ja kätköltä
on mukava näkymä alhaalla olevalle supalle. Kätkölle pääsee
Aurinkovuorta kiertävää pururataa pitkin. Talvisin pitää varoa
astumasta laduille.
