"Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy
and wise." It will also make finding this cache easier,as there
may be muggles about.
Among the chief accomplishments of Franklin in his era was helping
to launch the Library Company in 1731. During this time books were
scarce and expensive. Franklin recognized that by pooling together
resources, members could afford to buy books from England. Thus was
born the nation's first subscription library.
Is there anything this man couldn't do?
The Ben Franklin statue seated in front of the Silas Bronson
Library on Grand Street was designed by renowned sculptor Paul
Wayland Bartlett, a one-time Waterbury resident. The 1700 pound
statue was made possible by a $15,000 donation from Elisha
Leavenworth. After completion, it made a 22-city tour, with
celebrations in each city, from Baltimore to Boston and then to
Waterbury where it was dedicated June 3, 1921.
Be careful when snow and ice are present. The City may not always
clear the area near the cache.
A WiFi hot spot is now available at the library. For Information
