Geocache Description:

This is a small cache suitable for small swaps only. The cache is located in a well used walk through, so stealth is required. The co-ordinates given are for a free car park behind Warminster's shopping centre. Given the history it had to be a mystery cache

In the mid-1960s Warminster became the unlikely centre of a UFO phenomenon. It was not so much what witnesses saw, as what they heard. The phenomenon started in 1964, when a loud high-pitched whine was heard. Many people were struck to the ground by the unbearable noise, and the sound was soon replaced by visual sightings. These happenings soon became known locally and nationally as “The Thing”. Cley Hill and Cradle Hill soon became the key places to sit and wait for UFOs. Satellites were regularly spotted from these useful vantage points, and UFO spotters coming to the sites claimed they too saw UFOs. An excellent book recounting the occurrences in a modern context is “In Alien Heat” by Steve Dewey and John Ries (Anomalist Books, 2006) which is very entertaining and readable.
In order to accommodate the influx of UFO spotters and disseminate information, a “research” centre, “Star House” was set up. The cache is located within sight of the building that housed this group.

This cache requires a little homework using the UFO-Warminster website which can be found at (visit link) which also holds scans of the Fountain Journal, produced at Star House.

A: The month in 1964 when “The Thing” first manifested itself.
B: The approximate number of soldiers Knook camp who were woken that morning.
C: The date in May 1965 on which UFO's were first spotted by Hilda Hebdidge.
D: The number of occasions she saw them that week
E: The number of issues of the Fountain Journal available on the site
F: The date in August 1965 of the 'detonation never so far explained' over the Boreham Wood housing estate
GH: The street number for Star House
The following equation will give you the co-ordinates:

N 51° A.(B+F)D
W 002° ([D x G]-E).HC

Please make sure the cache is replaced as found.
