This cache is one of a series based around the Fife Stop Line, a second world war anti-invasion defensive structure built in 1940/41, see cache GC11H67 for more details.
When constructing the stop line even the dead were expected to play their part in the defence of Britain. St. Drostan's cemetery to the east of Markinch lies on a strategically important ridge overlooking the Leven valley. Defenders holding this ridge could dominate the entire valley below so the cemetery was fortified by cutting a firing position into the boundary wall and also installing anti tank cubes and a road block at the eastern entrance.
Park at the above co-ordinates from where the cubes can be seen by looking over the low wall to the south. If you then walk west through the cemetery to N56°11.892, W003°07.573, the firing loupes can be seen, but when doing so please be mindful to the feelings of the bereaved, this is an active cemetery.
