Geocache Description:

Church Micro 2661...Willington

This cache has been placed to bring you to the Church of Lawrence, Willington and to Willington Dovecote.

The cache is now a magnetic film pot. It only contains a log - you are a geocacher, you should have a writing implement!

Please note that the final cache is located outside the churchyard and is NOT accessible from inside the churchyard.

The church of Saint Lawrence has been described as one of the finest Perpendicular churches in Bedfordshire. An earlier church was much altered and rebuilt in the 1530's during a time of religious uncertainty and the Dissolution of the monasteries.

Visits to the church can be organised through the church wardens whose details are on the church notice board.

Please take time to explore the peace and tranquility, but please be respectful in the church and its grounds.

In close proximity to the church (and next to the recommended parking) are Willington Dovecote and Stables. The Dovecote was given to the National Trust in 1914 and the Stables in 1947. They are the only National Trust historical buildings in Bedfordshire. The dovecote is only open between April to September on the last Sunday of every month, otherwise admission is by appointment via the voluntary custodian. Erected as a nesting site for pigeons with 1500 nestboxes, in latter years the building has also been used by Barn Owls and Kestrels. You can visit the NT website here.

To find the location of the final cache, you will first need to find the door handle on the main double doors to the church. (These are on the southern side of the church). It is secured with A screws.

Then walk around to the northern side where there is only one entrance. The doors have metal studs. Do not count the two where the heads of the studs are missing. Excluding the two broken ones, there are B of them.

The final cache can be found at N 52° 08. (A*B)+36 W 000° 23.(A+B+18).
If necessary, prefix zeroes to make 3 digit numbers. e.g. 12 would be 012

This cache has been placed with the kind permission of the National Trust.

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
