Geocache Description:

This cache is in the Reservoir Canyon Natural Reserve. It is a decent hike, but not difficult for an average adult. The cache box is up a hill off the trail and should only be attempted by an adult as the final portion may be challenging.

Just north of San Luis Obispo, lies Reservoir Canyon Natural Reserve - a hiking area open to the public. To get to the trailhead, take Reservoir Canyon Road, just off US-101 (the turn off is around N 35°17.778, W 120° 37.814). Follow the road to the parking at the end (N 35° 17.468, W 120° 37.653). The hike from the parking area to the cache is a little more than one mile (one way), and follows a senic creek for most of the journey. One of our kids favorite spots are the little falls and pools which can be found if you follow the trail to the right at N 35° 17.198, W 120° 37.395.

The genesis of this cache was the County Cachers Meet-n-Greet Picnic held July 11, 2004, where the later to be Poison Oak Cachers first met. We decided that this would be a good spot to place the cache given the proximity to the event.

The container itself is now larger than before - being a large sized ammo box, so enjoy.

The final assent to the geocache can be tricky, please consider going up the hill at the rocky ravine just beyond where you'd normally cut up towards the cache - and then backtrack towards the box. A photo of the rocky ravine is provided below titled "Near this..." Please be careful the last few feet and remember it is better to have a dusty bottom than a broken bone. Bonus points for photos from the top of the peak!
