The parish sign is of a Hurricane fighter flying over North Weald -
showing the importance of the airfield to North Weald.
North Weald is a former fighter station which was opened in
1916. The museum at N51.42.788 E000.09.353 is housed in the former
RAF North Weald Station Office and is open between Noon and 5pm on
a Sunday.
A Memorial stone standing outside the museum commemorates the
close links between Norway and North Weald, as many Norwegian
pilots flew from North Weald during the Battle of Britain.
The cache, an ammo box, is over a kilometer away from the
Museum.
Unfortunatley, the Ammo Box's hinge has now broken - we have tried, unsuccessfully, to mend it. In the interests of history of caching and this cache in particular, I have put the old Ammo Box back but
IT NEEDS ITS LID REPLACING SECURELY.
