Jefferson Highway Challenge Cache Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

byonke: I believe it's time to let this one go. It was a fun challenge, but not really found that much. The original cache and hiding place is not longer available.

Thanks to all who found this cache.

Geocache Description:

This Cache will take you on a tour of

The Jefferson Highway

(Pine to Palm Highway)

North America's First Transcontinental International Highway

You are not eligible to log this cache until you have completed the requirements listed below!

The Jefferson Highway was conceived in 1915 and dedicated in 1919. The northern end is in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and stretches across eight states ending in New Orleans, LA.  Mike Conlin is currently spearheading an effort to create a Jefferson Highway Association to highlight and preserve the history of this highway. For more history on this highway click
here.

Requirements:

To be eligible to find and log this cache you must first find eleven caches within 0.5 miles of the original Jefferson Highway and these finds must be logged on or after the date this listing is published.   You need to find at least one cache in each of the states (including Manitoba) the highway originally ran through and two additional caches anywhere along the highway route.  Follow this link  to see detailed maps of the highway.  The following states are where you must have your finds:  Manitoba, Canada; Minnesota; Iowa; Missouri; Kansas; Oklahoma; Texas and Louisiana.

When you have found the required eleven caches you must provide us a list of your finds for verification.  You may submit the information in a bookmark page or as a note to this listing.  Be sure you include the GC number for each cache found.  If anyone logs this cache as a find before completing all the requirements  their log will be deleted. Don't hesitate to provide photos of yourselves at the caches you log.  Also, please feel free to place new "Jefferson Highway Caches" along the highway route.

The property manager (Frank Justus) of a B&B and museum gave us permission to place the final stage on private property. If you are lucky enough to meet him he just might enlighten you on the history of this area.

There will be a FTF prize but it has not yet been selected. );">Congratulations to byonkes for being FTF!
