All Hallows' Eve falls on 31st October each year, and is the day before All Hallows' Day, also known as All Saints' Day in the Christian calendar. The Church traditionally held a vigil on All Hallows' Eve when worshippers would prepare themselves with prayers and fasting prior to the feast day itself.
In an effort to convert pagans, the Christian church decided that Hallowmas or All Saints' Day (November 1) and All Souls' Day (November 2) should assimilate sacred pagan holidays that fell on or around October 31.
All Saints Day is an opportunity for believers to remember all saints and martyrs, known and unknown, throughout Christian history.
All Souls' Day is marked on 2nd November, directly following All Saints' Day, and is an opportunity to remember and pray for the souls of the dead in an effort to help them reach heaven. /p>
