	La Via delle Abbazie #7 - Abbazia di San Gallo [ITA] Moggio Udinese (Mueç in friulano) è un piccolo paese situato tra il Canal del Ferro e la Val d'Aupa, circondato dalle vette delle Alpi Giulie e delle Alpi Carniche. Moggio, che confina a nord con l'Austria, è uno tra i più estesi Comuni del Friuli Venezia Giulia ed è anche oggi il centro di maggiore attività del Canal del Ferro. Gode di una posizione privilegiata: la zona infatti è ricca di particolarità ambientali e naturalistiche. Per la forte suggestione paesaggistica di queste valli silenziose, circondate dalla splendida cornice delle vette alpine e percorse dalle acque incontaminate del Fella e del Tagliamento, questi luoghi sono stati scelti come setting del film "La ragazza del Lago". I produttori infatti hanno trovato a Moggio quel "piccolo fiordo norvegese in Italia" perfetto per l'ambientazione della loro pellicola. L'Abbazia di S. Gallo si erge sul colle di Santo Spirito e domina tutta la vallata del fiume Fella. Fu fondata nell'XI secolo per volere del Patriarca Ulrico I il quale, per dieci anni, fu abate di S. Gallo in Svizzera, uno dei monasteri più importanti dell'Alto Medioevo. Rimase una fondazione benedettina per oltre seicento anni e nel 1869 Papa Pio IX riportò alla pieve di Moggio il titolo di chiesa abbaziale. Il 20 giugno del 1985 giunsero all'Abbazia le prime Clarisse provenienti dal monastero di Venezia. Le suore trascorrono le giornate in preghiera e meditazione ed in altre attività come l'orticoltura, il cucito e l'artigianato. Poiché si tratta di un monastero di clausura non è possibile accedere al complesso abbaziale se non in prossimità del chiostro e l'ospitalità è riservata a parenti e religiosi. [ENG] Moggio Udinese (Mueç in Friulian language) is a small country situated between the Canal del Ferro and Val d'Aupa, the peaks of the Julian Alps and the Carnian Alps. Moggio, which is bordered on the north by Austria, is one of the largest municipalities in Friuli Venezia Giulia and is today the center of increased activity of the Canal del Ferro. It enjoys a privileged location: the area is indeed rich in natural and environmental characteristics. Due to the strong suggestion of the landscape of these peaceful valleys, surrounded by the magnificent mountain peaks and pristine waters covered by the Fella and vines, these places were chosen as the setting for the movie "Girl of the Lake." Producers have found that Moggio, this "little Norwegian fjord in Italy", was a perfect setting for their movie. The Abbey of St. Gallo stands on the hill of the Holy Spirit and dominates the whole valley of the river Fella. It was founded in the eleventh century by Patriarch Ulrich who, for ten years, was abbot of St. Gallo in Switzerland, one of the most important monasteries of the Middle Ages. It was a Benedictine foundation for over six hundred years and in 1869 Pope Pius IX brought to the church of Moggio the title of the abbey church. On 20 June 1985 the first Clarisse Nuns came from the monastery in Venice. The sisters spend their days in prayer and meditation and other activities such as gardening, sewing and crafts. Because this is a cloistered monastery can be accessed only the abbey near the cloister, and the hospitality is reserved for family and religious.
