Geocache Description:

Adventure Out - Boyagin Rock

This is the 1st in our Adventure Out series.  In this series we take you to our favourite day trips & camping locations within 300km of Perth.

Located 140km south east of Perth is Boyagin Rock.  This picnic area is part of the Boyagin Rock Nature Reserve.

Boyagin Rock is a large granite rock typical of most outcrops in Western Australia.  It is of cultural significance to the Nyoongar people who call it "Boogin".  They believe if you walk to the top of the rock without stopping you will live a long life.  The Boyagin Rock Nature Reserve is also regarded as one of the few areas of original flora and fauna in the Wheatbelt.

The picnic area has pit toilets, wood BBQs and lots of camping space.  The walk to the top of the rock is not difficult and would take around 45 minutes return.  Great views can be enjoyed from the top.

The cache has been hidden on the north-eastern side of the Rock - about half way up. It is a cylindrical container holding mainly swaps and log book.   Access is best via the main walk trail so that continuing on the the summit is less strenuous.  We recommend that you begin to head for the cache after you cross the second boardwalk.  .

We hope you enjoy your visit to Boyagin Rock.

How do I get there?  From Perth, take the Brookton Highway and turn right onto the York-Williams Rd approximately 20km short of Brookton.  Travel a further 10km and turn left on to Boyagin Rd (signposted to Boyagin Rock).  Follow the gravel road a further 6km kms until you reach the signpost posted left turn to the Rock.  The roads are suitable for 2wd vehicles.

See also Boyagin Rock Walk for more detailed information.

If you are in the area we also recommend you book a night's viewing at the Pingelly Observatory.  Trevor & Susie Keates put on a good show.  For more details visit http://members.westnet.com.au/web/astroventures/.
