Geocache Description:

Over 200 Covered Bridges cover the Pennsylvania landscape- more covered bridges exist in Pennsylvania than in any other state- here is a chance to explore one of them. Located approximately a half mile off of PA Interstate 79, exit 23 (Marianna & Prosperity) is the Hughes Covered Bridge. This cache was primarily designed to be a nice historical stop in Western PA and secondarily a travel bug hotel due to its close proximity to I79.

I will be starting four travel bugs in this cache- a North Bound, South Bound, East Bound, and West Bound Bug. Their goals are to head as far in their respective locations as possible until the summer of 2006 when their goal is to come back to this Hughes Bridge Cache.

The only time that will not be a good time to attempt this cache is the Annual Covered Bridge Festival, which is always held the third weekend in September. There will be more muggles than James Bond could avoid…

UPDATE-9/24/05: The cache is hidden in a different spot. The coordinates above are adjusted accordingly. You can park at N 40° 01.263 W 080° 10.406 and walk to the bridge / cache. Have fun, enjoy the cache, and if you have any questions, please look me up and feel free to ask.

From: http://www.ianadamsphotography.com/store/page47.html Bridges, Hughes Bridge, PA “Ian was returning home to Ohio from a winter trip to West Virginia when he found this attractive covered bridge near I-79 in Washington County south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania has more than 240 covered bridges, the most of any state. Ohio has around 130, and Indiana and Vermont each have about 100 bridges. Why were the bridges covered? I like the explanation of one elderly bridge builder, who opined, ‘The bridges were covered, sir, for the same reason ladies wore hoop skirts and crinolines…to protect the underlying structures that are seldom seen but nevertheless appreciated.’”
