This virtual was built in 1933 and has served the public every since. It provides the public with information about the history, current events and activities of Austin and Travis County. They collect and preserve information about local governments, businesses, residents, institutions, and neighborhoods so that generations to come will have access to our history. They have documents of Austin from before it’s founding in 1839 to the present.
This virtual is open seven days a week so when you find it go inside and look around. They offer tours to groups of six or more and I think they would be happy to talk to just one or two interested people. You can even get involved in what is going on there. There are two handsome meeting rooms available in this place for use by nonprofit organizations.
Go and learn what is available here in Austin. Help preserve our community’s heritage by volunteering your time or by donating materials. Through continuing changing exhibits programs, this center presents the story of Austin people, places, issues, and events both past and present.
