The Decline of Short Leaf Pine metal sign.
Welcome to the Current River Pinery. These Woodlands are shaped by fire, Shortleaf pine has dominated this landscape for thousands of years.
On this trail or gravel road, you will find a beautiful Missouri forest composed of pine and mixed hardwoods. This area of the Mark Twain National Forest is being actively managed. Yes, the trees are harvested, roads are maintained and the forest is burned periodically. It's part of the larger management plan of the Mark Twain National Forest.
Read the signs along the way and you can learn a little more about the Pinery. One day soon, I understand there will be pod casts to go with the signs. Right now it's still in the planning stages, but a few of my co-workers have been asked to contribute. It will be nice to hear them talk about the forest.
Last of the signs in this area.
