Geocache Description:

After many years of fly-fishing the Bow at McKinnon Flats, and enjoying wildlife viewing in the valley, I became intrigued with the history of McKinnon Flats. Once I became aware of what a historic place it was, I realized that it was the perfect place for a geocache. For years buildings were located at the bottom of the switchback that descends into the valley. The buildings have since been removed, but the McKinnon Flats is still a very cool place to visit.

McKinnon Flats LK Ranch is a great geocache for adults and children alike, and everyone will enjoy themselves while exploring my geocache, as well as learning about the history of the LK Ranch through information posted at stage 2 (SEE NOTE BELOW). Be aware that only the cordinates for stage 1 and 2 are given, requiring you to decipher the clues for each remaining stage to find the cache. The cache includes amongst other items, photos that I have shot at McKinnon Flats over the years, and I would be pleased if you took several home with you.
NOTE: Some time ago I found that the sign that was located by the old steel wheel tractor at McKinnon Flats and described the LK Ranch had been damaged. The sign has been removed and I am hoping it will be replaced. I have debated what to do about that, as I felt that it played an important part of what made visiting my geocache very interesting. So I have placed a photo of the sign here as seen above, and after you read the clue for STAGE 2, pay attention to the words "A Eastern Barn for a Western Farm" and then read the sign carefully looking for those same words before setting out to find "McKinnon Flats - The LK Ranch." Once you arrive at the old steel tractor, the words on the sign "An Eastern Barn for a Western Farm" should make sense, and if you need an additional clue, look for the same words "A Eastern Barn for a Western Barn" located on a brass plate that I riveted somewhere on the old steel wheel tractor, as there is an additional clue included on this plate to help find stage 3. Click on the photo above to expand it making it easier to read, and read the history of the LK Ranch.....Jerry
