The California Nursery Company was established in 1884 and sold roses, palm trees, fruit trees, and ornamental plants.
This 20 acre property is the last remnant of the original 463 acre California Nursery Company, a once grand nursery operation that brought national attention to the East Bay.
The California Nursery Company provided fully grown palm trees to 3 World's Fairs in San Francisco (1894, 1915, and 1939) and the company shipped trees all over the world.
Upon entering the park, you will pass by the historic 1930’s nursery display garden, now filled with over 400 roses. In the period of the 1930’s to 1960’s, the garden was planted with flowering bulbs for the annual spring shows. During the rest of the year, the beds held roses that were sold by the nursery.
Today, the display garden holds historic and modern roses.
