Geocache Description:

Caches along this trail should not be difficult. (Well, maybe a couple will be!) It is hoped that a journey down this path will be relaxing. This is our home county. Please help us by picking up any litter you see. “If you leave litter there, does it become yours?”smiley

This is the Dufferin Power Trail. This old rail line once ran to the Grey Bruce area. It is used as a winter snow trail. The Dufferin Wind Power Inc. group has an easement to run a 230kV power line from the northern wind farm to the substation in Orangeville and hence created a better road/path for this trail. It is hoped that a multi-use designation will be in place soon allowing hiking and biking in the 3 other seasons. ATV traffic is expected as well which might make it difficult to maintain a bike path.

In April, 1871, the first train arrived in Orangeville with a full complement of dignitaries, all celebrating "the opening of an epoch in the history of the town." Within six months of the railway's opening, Orangeville was shipping out as many as 16 loads of grain a day as well as timber, lumber, and fence rails. Regular service began in September of the same year. When this railway and the Credit Valley Railway became part of Canadian Pacific Railways in 1883, Orangeville became an essential part of the line to Owen Sound. Orangeville was the divisional point on the main line as well as the starting point for several branch lines to places such as Fergus, Elora, and Mount Forest. An interesting footnote here is the fact that passenger service to Orangeville ended in 1971, exactly 100 years after it began. The Orangeville/Owen Sound trackage was abandoned in 1995.

Be aware that the power line along this trail may interfere with GPS signals.     www.emfs.info/sources/overhead/

Coords are probably wild here. Use the clue.
