Geocache Description:

This cache is a new listing using the logbook of an old cache, still in place.

"Ipoh The Tin City" was originally a multi-cache placed by Dark Energy on 27th January, 2009. Unfortunately, due to the cache being moved, the railway square being remodelled, clues no longer available and the cache owner's inability to maintain, the cache was archived in 2017. The cache log was, however, intact, albeit at a different location! So StopTheWorld relisted the cache, to keep it alive. While the nearby building is no longer a Museum, it does host art exhibitions, and a few of of the more interesting exhibits of the museum have been retained at and near GZ. A few of the larger exhibits from the old museum still reside out the back- a few armoured vehicles from the days of "The Emergency", a truck that used to haul tin ore from the tin mines, and a few other bits and pieces.

The gates to the premises are sometimes locked, and it seems that there is no accurate way to determine if and when they will be open, so we have increased the difficulty of this cache. You might be lucky, or you might have to visit more than once ot be able to enter the premises. Please note that the rear GATES CLOSEST TO GZ ARE NEVER OPEN.

The following paragraph includes some paraphrased information from the original listing.

Ipoh, the capital of the state of Perak (which means "silver"), is situated in the Kinta Valley, which was once the richest single tin field in the world. By 1890, Ipoh was experiencing tremendous development as a result of tin mining, and the Kinta Valley later became the world's major tin producing area. As the tin mining boom progressed, Ipoh became a destination for wealth-hunters and job-seekers from around the world- especially English, Chinese, French and Indians.

If you are interested in the tin mining history of Ipoh, a visit to the  Han Chin Pet Soo Tin Mining Museum, in the old headquarters of the Ipoh Tin Miners' Club, is well worth a visit. So, also, is the tin dredge at Tanjung Tualang.

You can park in the old museum car park. To retrieve the cache, you will need to be a little agile!
