The Brown Bag Club Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Nirvanadiver: I am going to archive this one. It has been left out in the open one too many times. It's sad how the game of geocaching has become a game of rehidding the caches after just a few finds, seems the newer cachers don't get it that the cache is suppose to be hidden. Thanks to all that found it in the past.

Geocache Description:

PLEASE only look during day light hours, even though this spot is far from any homes, this is a very quiet neighborhood and someone poking around at night with Flash lights might not be welcomed.

The cache is on public land just off the side of the road at a "Princess Anne Country Club" Golf Cart Crossing. This is a pretty easy find, please watch for mugglers in golf carts and cars. You do not have to walk on the Golf course or go near the Virginia Utilities building. I picked this spot because I had a Golf Ball Travel Bug that wanted to be near a golf course and I used to live here and would ride by this spot on my bike all the time, and I thought it was time "The Colony" had a Cache.

The Princess Anne golf course is considered to be one of the region’s most beautiful and challenging par 70 tracts. The 6,062 yard course meanders through scenic neighborhoods lined by lush pines and crosses several inlets and lakes. It embraces the land’s natural features and enfolds greens and bunkers that were meticulously shaped by hand.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU PUT THIS CACHE BACK AS FOUND, WE DON'T WANT IT SEEN BY GEO-MUGGLES (riding Bikes, Golf carts or Jogging by).

I have found this cache out in the open a few times, PLEASE return to spot where you find it.....if you find it out in the open where you can see it when you walk up to it, someone has not put it back in it's SPOT. PLEASE return it in a way that it will not be seen by someone walking by. I don't want to give away it's hiding spot, but it is not suppose to be seen without REALLY looking for it.

A Little Bay Colony back ground:
Nestled between Crystal Lake, Linkhorn Bay, First Landing State Park and Cavalier Drive, Bay Colony is one of the oldest and most desirable neighborhoods in Virginia Beach. The homes are an eclectic mix of older ranch style houses, stately colonials and elegant waterfront mansions. Although just blocks from the oceanfront, the neighborhood is quietly tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the summer crowds.

One of the first documentations of this area of Virginia Beach was a map of a Spanish expedition in 1570 which shows an inlet near Crystal Lake. At the time, Crystal Lake was connected to the ocean by a broad inlet where 49th Street is today. Some historians speculate that one of the first explorers of Virginia Beach, Sir Ralph Lane, came ashore somewhere along Crystal Lake on April 26th, 1607. The colonists encountered Chesapeake Indians who retreated into the sand hills after being fired on by a cannon from the ship. The inlet connecting Crystal Lake and the ocean was ultimately silted in and Rainey's Gut was created so that boats would not be landlocked..
Prior to 1950, Bay Colony was largely undeveloped.

The oldest known home was built in 1845 and in 1937 the house opened as the Bay Colony Club. The Bay Colony Club was a weekend retreat and "BROWN BAG" club for residents of Norfolk .The Bay Colony Club was ultimately closed and the home has changed hands and undergone renovations several times and is still one of the most Beautiful homes in Bay Colony.
