"The work of Stanley Roy Badmin has a unique place in the hearts
and minds of the post-war generation. Nobody who has lived through
this period of time will have failed to notice his bright and lucid
illustrations for the Shell Guides.....Badmin's detailed and
romantic pictures of the English countryside encapsulate the appeal
of the whole series. His intense and meticulous watercolours have
appeared on over a hundred greetings cards, Christmas cards and
calendars produced by Royle's. They have illuminated book jackets
and the covers of Reader's Digest volumes". So reads the
introduction to his biography - 'S.R.Badmin and the English
Landscape".

countryside and on the downs were one of my early introductions to
my lifelong fascination with, and career in, natural history.
