Geocache Description:

This Place of Worship was founded before 1185, and it is still open.

St Bartholomew's Church is a Grade II Listed Building.

Kelly's Directory of 1923 records that Nympsfield was anciently "Nymdesfelle".

It records also that the church was re-erected in 1863 "in the first Pointed style", and consists of a chancel, nave and four bays, north aisle and north-west porch, whilst inside the church is a list of incumbents dating from AD 1185, and there are 220 sittings.

The parish register contains burials from 1678, marriages from 1680 amd baptisms from 1684. It also contains a record of James II's progress through the parish on 22nd August 1687.

Old Maps, for instance OS 1889-1890 show the church as dedicated to St Margaret. The Listed Building site echoes the present dichotomy in providing its write-up as St Margaret

. Incidentally, its 19th century rebuilding, like St Giles at Uley was to a design by S.S. Teulon. However unlike at Uley, where apparently nothing survives of any earlier church, Nympsfield's 15th century tower has survived.
