Who: You
What: The Piledriver Spring Reviver
When: 9am to 3pm, June 10, 2017
Where: Piledriver Slough. The Piledriver Slough is located across the Richardson Highway from Eielson Air Force Base. It is a Class 1, slow moving slough which eventually empties out into the Tanana River. We'll start by meeting at 9am at the Put-in where Eielson Farm Road crosses the Piledriver Slough. From there we'll shuttle cars to the take-out at Moose Creek Landing. The float, including finding some geocaches, should take anywhere between 2 to 4 hours.
Why: Just because this is a fun, relatively easy float with a huge potential to see wildlife such as moose, beaver, fox, Bald Eagles and other avian raptors such as F-35's and C-130's. Grayling can be abundant for catch-and-release!! The put-in and take-out have restroom facilities. Bring a lunch (maybe a fishing rod with your license) to have on the river or at the take-out if you'd like! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call liquidearth (Hal and Carol) at 474-8520 or 347-4486.
How: To get to the put-in, take the Richardson Highway south (as if you're going to North Pole from Fairbanks). Once you cross over the Chena Flood Channel bridge (the dikes) south of North Pole be looking for milepost 344 on your right. About a half-mile more on your right you will come to Eielson Farm Road (MP343.6). Turn right and you will immediately see a large parking area on your left and Bathing Beauty Pond on your right. Don't stop just yet. Keep going another 0.3 miles farther to the put-in. We'll unload the watercraft on the right (downriver side) of the bridge. Hint: There is a geocache located at the put-in! You can free park on either side of the bridge.
Make sure you bring: drinking water, mosquito dope, sunscreen (hopefully you'll need it!!), waterproof case for your smartphone/GPSr (smartphones do work in this area!), good footwear for walking in mud, water and some brush, and a LIFEJACKET!!!
Please indicate in "log Your Visit" if you "will attend" this event.
If you want to download coordinates into your GPSr check Geocaching.com after 9pm, June 9, to see several new geocaches located on the frontage road to Moose Creek Landing and on Piledriver Slough that will be published just for you to possibly get an "FTF" (First-to-Find!) or just increase the amount of finds you have already. Bring some swag to populate the caches if you'd like!
EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!!! -- YOU MUST HAVE A LIFEJACKET ON FOR THIS TRIP!!
