Cattle Egrets are of the Order: Ciconiiformes, Family: Ardeidae and therefore are related to the Great Blue Heron and the Snowy Egret
They are called cattle egrets because they like to ride on the back of a cow while the cow moves forward disturbing the insects and causing the insects to fly up and the egrets will eat them. Egrets prefer to nest in trees that border ponds on golf courses. This tree has many egrets nesting in it.
Do NOT cross the golf course to get to the cache. For closest access, you can park in the lot by the Paradise Grill and walk across the bridge or if the gate is up you can park in the Hyatt lot east of Nohea Kai Street. Otherwise you can walk from the beach.
Be careful of the landscapers and enjoy the many birds!
