12. februarja 1945, komaj tri mesece pred osvoboditvijo je nemški okupator storil enega najhujših množičnih zločinov na Spodnjem Štajerskem v času okupacije. Kot maščevanje za smrt najvišjega nacističnega funkcionarja celjskega okrožja, Antona Dorfmeistra, ki je deset dni prej padel v partizansko zasedo, so Nemci v soteski Graben na Stranicah pri Frankolovem na jablane ob cesti obesili sto talcev. V glavnem so to bili v nemški zimski ofenzivi ujeti, tudi ranjeni in bolni partizani, sicer kmetje, delavci, obrtniki in nameščenci iz različnih koncev slovenske Štajerske. Čeprav je bil to eden izmed mnogih in niti ne zadnji zločin med vojno, pa dogajanje na Stranicah, ki je v ljudskem izročilu in zgodovinskem spominu bolje ohranjeno pod imenom frankolovski zločin, vendarle izstopa zaradi dveh stvari. Prva je ta, da je v zameno za življenje enega Nemca okupator umoril sto Slovencev, druga pa je način njihove usmrtitve, ki po svoji brutalnosti dodatno izstopa.
12th February 1945, just three months before the liberation of the German occupying forces committed one of the worst mass crimes in Lower Styria during the occupation. As revenge for the death of top Nazi functionary of the Celje District, Anton Dorfmeister, which is ten days earlier fell into a partisan ambush the Germans in the gorge grabbed this when Frankolovem on apple trees along the road hanged hundreds of hostages. In the main, it has been in the German winter offensive captured the wounded and sick partisans, namely farmers, workers, craftsmen and postholders from different parts of Slovenian Styria. Although this was one of the many and not even a crime during the last war, and the developments in the sides of the oral tradition and historical memory is better preserved by Frankolovo crime, however, stands out because of two things. The first is that in exchange for the life of one of the German occupying forces killed hundreds of Slovenes and the other is the method of their execution, which in its brutality additional exit.
