During WWII Milfield was an operational airfield. Outside one of the old airfield buildings, each side of the entrance, stand two statues each made up of a globe with an eagle standing on top. The statue on the left of the door is carved from stone with quite a lot of detail and shows outlines of countries and the lines of latitude and longitude around the globe. This was carved by Polish servicemen in World War II. The other statue is made of concrete and has a carving of a very odd-looking eagle on top. This statue was made by American servicemen and is badly cracked and beginning to break up.
