A Walk in the Park
The Parque Luis Muñoz Rivera is the island’s first urban park. It was created in 1929, and serves as the area’s central hub. Named in honor of one of the island’s most influential public figures, the famed Puerto Rican politician was a staunch supporter of autonomous government and his legacy is now commemorated with a statue in front of an open-air stage.
The park’s 25 acres constitute a much needed green enclave in the middle of the city, allowing visitors to relax around the numerous fountains and benches, shaded by copious trees. A stroll down Paseo de los Próceres reveals a row of statues of prominent Latin American figures like Simón Bolívar.
Also noteworthy is the Polvorín San Gerónimo – a remodeled 18th century armory that played an integral role in defending the city of San Juan against invading enemies. Other amenities such as playgrounds and gazebos make the park an excellent location for family outings.
Schedule:
Monday thru Sunday and Holidays: 24 hours
I have created this cache in honor to a former one that was here with the same name (GC1C9D7) and (GCXB34), which was the first cache placed here. This is my favorite urban park, so I have decided to bring a cache one more time to this beautiful place. The cache is a small container. The original content is logbook, a brass whistle with a pin for the FTF and some goodies. Enjoy! BYOP
