Briggs Bridge Overlook, from a high bluff above Eagle River, w/ mountain and kayaker views. Pack snacks or a lunch and stay a while. Really cool spot. Cache placed under GeocacheAlaska! Park Use Permit #15-KA-1994.
Fairly easy hike, about a mile from canoe launch at Briggs Bridge. After parking at the canoe launch or the picnic area, go down to river, turn left, and go under the bridge. Shout loudly for cool echoes. Past the bridge, a trail winds left past a beaver dam, across a couple of small streams, and then up a steep grassy bank. About half way up that, you'll find a trail on the right heading north along the river bluff. Continue, admiring views and avoiding bluff's abrupt edge, you might see bright survey tapes on trees. Looking down, you'll find a brass survey marker, saying "Dena'i'na 1986". Look out over the river, and maybe you'll spot kayakers and the beaver dam! Beyond Briggs Bridge is a fantastic view of Eagle River Valley. To your left are the cliffs of Mount Magnificent. Folllow that ridgeline and you'll see the Saddle (excellent blueberries in the fall). Keep on going west to Ram Valley, another terrific day hike. Looking to your right, you'll see Mount Lyons, with subdivisions on Hiland Road. **Do not get too close to the bluff's edge and if you bring a dog or children, watch them carefully** The cache complies with all terms of Permit #15-KA-1994.
