Geocache Description:

COORDINATES ABOVE ARE NOT FOR THIS OR ANY OF THE 8 LEGS IN THIS SERIES. Those coordinates do NOT figure into the puzzle for finding the actual cache coordinates. Instead, you will have to do a little decrypticing in order to find the coordinates for each cache.

The EAST 4040 CRYPTIC CHALLENGE will take you to some of my favorite spots. You will excercise, your legs, lungs, and MIND to complete the task. Are YOU up to it?

The above coordinates are just a good starting/reference point and are within 2 miles of the cache. For each cache in E4040CC, you will need to add two factors to get the CORRECT coordinates. In each case, one will be here on the web page as shown below for Factor #1 and will always be a number of minutes (portions of a degree) which will be added to Factor #2 to come up with the final coordinates. Factor #2 will have to come from clues and puzzles along the way.

For this first cache use:

Factor #1 +2.809' North & +6.064 West

Factor #2 for The Games Begin Cache must be derived from the puzzle below. Add the answers for North and West to factor #1 and you'll have it made.

You will need The Little Book of Clues.
Copy (Right mouse click/copy) and print each of the 19 pages.
The Little Book of Clues is essential for this series.
Don’t lose it...... EVER!!! :)
Page 1 is just below, and further down is page 3 (which you'll use to find this first cache. You will need to open and print the other 17 pages by clicking the links below page 1.

Hit your browser's BACK arrow to return to this page.
You can paste (CTRL-V) your copied pages (1 by 1) into the Windows WordPad accessory - page setup for landscape and you can get two of the book's pages per one sheet of paper.

NOTICE changes as of July 2005

1. UDOT got a new ruler? MILE POSTS on US Hwy 40 East of Vernal HAVE BEEN MOVED.... 1.4 miles EAST of where they used to be when these caches were set up. This will be no problem but you will need to NOTE CHANGES FOR #3, #6, #7 on their respective web pages where I now provide some answers instead of having you find them on the mile posts that are no longer where they used to be.

2. On E4040CC #2 there is a slight typo correction for Clue 3A in the Little Book of Clues.

Contents of The Games Begin Cache - theme is games & leisure activity. Fitting since this is the first cache in a game itself. So stop and read, or play and/or trade some fun stuff:

Now "Let The Games Begin...."

HERE'S YOUR 1st PUZZLE: (page 3 of the Little Book of Clues)

(20040517 - I've just been informed that there is one other solution that satisfies the paragraph above. If you can come up with that one you can win a trip to the MacKenzie Territory of Canada - all expenses paid by yourself.)

Plug those numbers into Factor #2 for the actual coordinates here:

North: N Zero Degrees T T . N R G Minutes

West: One Zero H Degrees T H . W I R Minutes

Be sure to add Factor #1 to these. Good luck.

Oh..... just remembered. You can drive within 100 feet with high clearence vehicle, a car if you dare, but consider parking 6/10 mile to the southeast (-.439' from N and -.361' from W coords) and walking up to the cache.
