There’s a village lying at the Vértes Mountain’s feet, its name is Csákvár. A significant village of the area, and a popular trekking destination, because of its beautiful location. Csákvár changed its owner many times during the history, the face of the village nowadays thanks to Eszterházy family. This family built a castle there in the XVIII. Century, which has a 22 acre garden. This garden’s remain is this chapel.
The chapel
It is in good repair, and was far away from the wars in the XX. Century, but thanks to the vandalism, the roofing wasn’t in the best condition. Fortunately, in 2000, with money coming from a tender, the chapel was re-enacted, so now it looks like new. You can go up for free, there’s good view under the roof. If you’re thinking about sleeping there, you can do it, nobody will disturb you in this building quite far away from the village.
The village
Csákvár is famous about his pottery throughout the country. In the beginning of the XX. Century, there was 130 potter in the village, of course nowadays there are less, but you can find many pottery, if you walk along the main street. Nowadays the Eszterházy-castle is working as a hospital and sanatorium. Terstyánszky Ödön (1889-1929) born there, he was the champion of sword fencer in Olympic games in 1928, Amsterdam.
I recommend starting from the sports-sourt named after him, then follow the fence, and go along the footpath signed with ‘S’.
The cache is closed to this chapel, at the side of the forest, in a hole of a stock.
