Geocache Description:

This is a memorial place where a british P-51 Mustang on return from an airraid to northern Germany crashed March 15, 1944.


Also Sweden, even if neutral in the second worldwar, was exposed to what was going on in the surrounding countries. The P-51 Mustang fighters protected the allied bombers from german air attacks when making bomb raids to over northern Germany.The actual Muatsng crashed in Skummeslöv after having been attacked by a german fighter (over swedish teritory), when on way back to England. The pilot, lt. Edward Phillips didn´t survive the crash.
The remainings of the plane were buried in the soil for almoust 50 years, when some enthusiasts from Varbergs Flygklubb (Varberg´s Aviation Society) started a project to save the old wreck. More than halfpart of the plane has been taken up, identified and restored and is now a small exhibition.

When visiting the place, wich can be seen from the way from Mellbystrand to Vallberga, you should try to park on the wertern side of E6/E20. You have to pass over some fields. Take care so you don´t walk through growing crops, fields with loose cattle must be also avoided. TAKE CARE! Fences might also be electrified - use prepared gates with plastic handles! The cache contains from the beguinning: Logbook, pen, shoe polish cloth, diece.
