At the MIDPOINT in Adrian, TX is where you can get your kicks on Route 66. When you're "1,139 miles to L.A. and 1,139 miles to Chicago" you can find a cache hidden just across Amaerica's Main Street.
From the west migration of the dust bowl through the 50s & 60s, Route 66 made this little West Texas town a bustlin' place with 24 hour cafes, bus stops, travel courts and a filling station on almost every corner. It is most likely, on the day you seek your cache, you will notice quiet more than anything. If you're lucky, you might see a tour group of motorcyclists or classic cars. With a nostalgic spirit and a little imagination, you can hear the sounds of times gone by. Just down the street to the east is another Rt. 66 icon that bears noticing. The once famous, now closed, Bent Door Cafe. Although it was never officially named that, it derived this nickname because it was constructed from a recycled WWII Army Air Force Base control tower and the doors and windows are bent. Enjoy your trip down America's Historic Highway, and while in Adrian, treat yourself at the fine eateries and gift shops that continue to serve faithful travelers of the Mother Road.
