Geocache Description:

This is one in a series of caches that will take you to Greers Ferry Lake, thus the name. Along your tour you will see many of the highlights and/or businesses that are available in the Heber Springs area. You may even learn a little history or find out about a business located in this small rural town. These caches are micros and hidden in traditional ways. They only contain a log. Please bring a writing instrument with you. Verbal permission from Tommy Park, Corp of Engineers Operation Manager, was obtained. Currently this location closes at 7pm. I believe it closes at 6pm during the winter season. You may want to steal a look at the fantastic view at the lookout over the dam.. At this location, slightly southwest, there are two bust monuments with some informative history. This location is also the last official dedication that President John F. Kennedy performed before his death. Congratulations to EAgle95 FTF on 8/17/07 Above all, be safe, have fun, happy caching, and enjoy each day to its fullest. Carp (Cyprinus carpio) - Not native to the United States. They were imported from Europe in the late 1800’s as a food fish. Unfortunately, Americans did not take to the carp for eating and it is considered a pest. It is very common throughout the southeast as well as most of North America. In many areas the common carp is considered a commercial fish and is gaining acceptance as a sport fish. It is slate to gold in color with a dark spot at the base of each scale. A single stiff spine on both the dorsal and anal fins. It has s sucker-like mouth with a barbel on each corner. Typically weighs 5 - 25 pounds, but can get up to 58 pounds. It is very tolerant of polluted waters, but prefers warm standing or slow moving water. It spawns in very shallow 59 - 77 degree water and are often seen splashing about with their backs out of the water. They are bottom feeders and are a very strong fighter. They prefer doughballs, worms, small crustaceans, plants, and corn. They can be found in AL, AR, FL, GA, KY, LA, MS, NC, SC, TN, and TX.
