Geocache Description:

This cache is a letterbox hybrid with a short hike.

The stamp is homemade & MUST remain with the cache!!

As always the coords are correct but if you wish you can follow the letterbox style clues for a bit of added fun.

I have added a waypoint for metered parking near the education building. You can park at Lot 5 on the weekends - they don't seem to check permits then - otherwise, to the North of the stadium (closer to Spanish River Blvd.) there are some unmarked lots.

Enter the Tortuga Trail from the south and walk till you get to the second entrance for the RED Trail. (If you parked north of the stadium it will be the first entrance) You will know you are on the path when you see a swing hanging from a tree - go ahead - swing on it! It's fun!!

Follow this trail along - you will pass a bench and a bat house with a sign explaining them.

You will see the air traffic control tower ahead so you know you are getting close. The trail turns to the right and begins to meander a bit. Currently the foliage is a bit thick. Just as the foliage lets up you will see a tree with a "V" that overhangs the path on your left. The treasure you seek is at the base of this tree.

Please rehide as found. Try to make sure it is not visible and that the box is well sealed.

In 1939, the Howard Aircraft Corporation produced a new development of their basic design, the Howard DGA-15. Like its predecessors, the DGA-15 was a single engined high-winged monoplane with a wooden wing and a steel tube truss fuselage, but it was distinguished by a deeper and wider fuselage, allowing five people to be seated in comfort. It was available in several versions, differing in the engine fitted. The DGA-15P was powered by a Pratt Whitney Wasp Junior radial engine, while the DGA-15J used a Jacobs L6MB and the DGA-15W a Wright R-760-E2 Whirlwind. In an era when airlines were flying DC-3s, the Howards cruising at 160 to 170 mph could match their speed, range and comfort with the rear seat leg room exceeding airline standards with limousine-like capaciousness, and high wing loading allowing the Howards to ride through most turbulence comfortably.

This stamp was carved by a fellow letterboxer, Kirbert.

It is part of a series that have been placed near airports so that pilots may go letterboxing by Cessna. To find all such boxes near airports in your area, conduct an advanced search on AtlasQuest and search for the keyword "airport". You may map the results, which may help in putting together a flight plan!

Typically, all of these letterboxes can also be found by land.
