Cincinnati
Bengals
(AFL: 1968
– 1969
NFL: 1970 - Present)
Five Facts about the Cincinnati Bengals:
·
Linebacker
Reggie Williams, a Dartmouth graduate, served on the Cincinnati
City Council while playing for the Bengals.
·
Sam
Wyche was the innovative Bengal coach who has been credited with
inventing the no-huddle offence.
·
“Who
Dey”, a Bengal Tiger, is the mascot for the Cincinnati
Bengals named after a chant cheered by the crowd at games
“Who dey think gonna beat dem Bengals?”
·
When
Paul Brown originally attempted to form the Bengals, it was his
intent to join the NFL and not the AFL. It was only the assurance
of the AFL-NFL merger and the knowledge that his team would
eventually be in the NFL that made him follow through with the
plan.
·
The
final play of quarterback Boomer Esiason’s career was a 77
yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Darnay Scott.
Now about the

Week
10: Trying out a new type of cache, a letterbox. This will use your
gps, your compass, and geosenses all in one cache. Since this is a
letterbox, there is a stamp and ink pad (These are not
trabables, please leave them for the next person to stamp their
book with.) If you have letterboxing tools, please stamp
the log with your stamp, otherwise make sure you sign you name in
the log book. The container has a little bit of room for tradables,
which will allow for travel bugs to get good mileage coming right
off the interstate. Don’t forget to keep track of your
playbook for the series. Have fun!
Letterbox
directions:
1)
Begin
at the posted coordinates (N 35° 27.129' W
80° 35.551).
2)
Walk
100ft north until you are near a gravel pull-off area.
3)
Now
go south-east from your current position until you walk between a
large (compared to others in the area) tree on your right and a
cedar tree which almost grew sideways and curves as the branches
began to grow on your left.
4)
Continue
to follow the same south-east direction until you see a double
trunk tree (medium size trunks compared to others in the area)
which is surrounded by small cedar trees.
5)
Now
cut through the trees heading east and look for a tree which has a
severe curl in its trunk (shaped like a backwards
“C”)
6)
Hidden
at the base of this tree is the letterbox/cache!
About The Series:
"ROAD
TO THE SUPER BOWL"
Welcome to the NFL football
season. What would the NFL season be like without a new football
cache series to find? Throughout the football weeks, bluepant and
mob1971, will be hiding a series of different style NFL team
caches. These caches hope to excite the football fanatics and also
teach the not so football savvy some things about each team. These
caches will provide clues and information to our Super Bowl cache
finale called "Road to the Super Bowl"
PRESEASON
GAMES (Teaser caches, does not include the needed hints for the
series finale cache):
DALLAS
TEXANS and
CANTON
BULLDOGS
Series Finale:
Stage 1 – Playbook
Stage 2 – Super Bowl
Each cache
will contain a trivia question about that team that could be
critical to finding the final cache "Road to the Super Bowl".
Please make sure you take time to read your playbook and keep up
with the questions and answers in preparation for the FINAL exam.
Please DO
NOT POST any of the answers or questions in
your logs. If you have any questions regarding the trivia
questions, feel free to email bluepant or mob1971. The FINAL
playbook will contain a variety of questions from the above caches
in order to obtain the "Road to the Super Bowl" coordinates
(HINT:
Answers to FINAL playbook will come from a number of caches you
found during the season, so I would hate for you to try to skip one
or two of the caches and miss a question). Have fun and enjoy this
series.
