Cedar Swamp Wildlife Area
Collins Beach was a thriving Delaware Bay resort in the 1870's, with steamboats from Philadelphia and Wilmington making regular stops. The hurricane and tidal wave of 1878 put an end to the resort business. It destroyed the pier, buildings and roads in the area, changing the shoreline and turning Cedar Swamp into a salt marsh.
The cache, a small ammo can, is located near Collins Beach on what seems to be an old estate. The gate at the end of Thoroughfare Neck Rd. may be closed at times. Parking on the corner lot and walking in will add about .5 to your trek to the cache.
Hunting by permit is allowed in this wildlife area, so blazed orange would be a good idea during hunting season. For hunting dates check this link: (visit link)
