Description:
Lough Ennell & Lilliput.
The Lough is 7 kms. (4-1/2 miles) long by 4 kms. (2-1/2 miles wide and it covers an area in excess of 1300 hectares (3250 acres).
The Lough's extensive feeder streams ensure a good stock of wild brown trout averaging 2 Ibs. 2 ozs.
The peak of the brown trout fishing is from early August until the end of the season.
Apart from fishing there is also Wind Surfing, Jet-skiing, Water Skiing and so on. There are Horse riding tracks around the Lake, a Carvan and Camping park. Shop and Toilets are located on the Eastern side of the Lake accessible from the N52 further down the road.
Location:
Lough Ennell & Lilliput, County Westmeath. Lough Ennell is located 5kms. (3 miles) south of Mullingar off the N52 road. There are two entrances to the Lake, use the one closest to Mullingar. This will bring you to the the West side of the Lake.
The Cache:
The Cache is an Ammo Box with an "Official Geocache ID tag" on the Side. The contents of the Cache have been placed in ZipLoc bags for added protection.
The coordinates should get you right where you need to be to locate this cache. As you near the cache you'll come to where the road ends and is blocked by gates. To the left of these gates you should see access steps between two posts. Did I mention that this is a walking trail? well it is, but not in the winter. If you stand facing the steps from the Lough side of the fence, you'll see some trees located immediately to your right. Have a peep at ground level. Good Luck.
