A Cacher's Salute to the Seahawks Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

mc3cats: I am going to go ahead and archive this. The camo used for this cache is no longer available and therefore I can not recreate the original container anymore. It had a good run, sort of like the Seahawks did.....

Geocache Description:

I have followed the Seahawks since almost the beginning. Those early years were quite entertaining with the team doing fake punts and field goals and having some electrifying players like Jim Zorn, Steve Largent, Effren Herrera and Dan Doornik to name a few. They were fun to watch in those days, but wins hard to come by. As  the years went by, players came and went. Stand out players from the 80's through the 90's had the likes of Dave Krieg, Kenny Easley, Curt Warner,Joe Nash, Brian Blades, Cortez Kennedy, Joey Galloway, Warren Moon, Walter Jones (who just got into the football hall of fame) to name a few. Coaching changes were abound during this period with Jack Patera, Chuck Knox (who could forget the "Ground Chuck" era), Tom Flores, Dennis Erickson and in 1999 Mike Holgren took over the reins as head coach which became a pivotal point in the team's history. In 2002 the Seahawks returned to the NFC as well as leaving Husky Stadium and going to their new home that eventually was named Century Link Field. The Holmgren era was magical. Holmgren was able to get some big name talent to the team with the likes of Matt Hasselback and Shaun Alexander which helped the team win their first NFC Championship game in 2005 against the Carolina Panthers. The Seahawks went on to their first ever appearance at the Super bowl against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Detroit, MI on February 5, 2005. The Seahawks lost by the score of 21 - 10. After the Holmgren era ended  in 2008, a very brief era with Jim Mora at the helm lasted only one season. This opened the door for the Pete Carroll era which began in 2010. Carroll left the University of Southern California and came up to Seattle and immediately made some personnel changes and started to build an impressive young team. Carroll got Russell Okung, Earl Thomas, Marshawn Lynch in 2010. In 2012, Carroll traded Tavaris Jackson for Matt Flynn and drafted rookie QB Russell Wilson a 75th pick in the 3rd round of the 2012 draft.  Wilson was originally drafted as a back up quarterback backing up Matt Flynn, but he impressed Carroll in the preseason that he got the nod as starting quarterback for the 2012 season. That season they got into the playoffs but lost in the second round to the Atlanta Falcons. The 2013 season brought some new faces to the team with the likes of Michael Bennett (from the Bucs), Cliff Avril (from the Lions), and Percy Harvin (from the Vikings). The team went on to have their best year ever  and went 13 and 3 getting the top seed in the play offs and winning their second George Halas trophy after beating the San Francisco 46ers in the NFC Champoinship Game with a little help from a raucous 12th man who has been there all season. The Seahawks are now in their second Super Bowl appearance at Super Bow 48 in New York City. The first time an outdoor Super Bowl has been played in a cold weather stadium. The Seahawks are matched up with an old AFC rival, the Denver Broncos.  Throughout the 2013 season, numerous players shined which helped the team get to where they are today. Marshawn Lynch and his "Beast Mode" runs carrying defenders on his back as he grinds out the yards, phenom Russell Wilson dazzling us with his scrambling abilities and shovel passes, Golden Tate with his impressive kick off returns and catches. On the defense side, 2013 had the Seahawks with the best defense in the league bestowing them with the monger of "legion of boom".  Players like the out spoken corner back Richard Sherman who seems to catch as many balls as opposing receivers do and who is a menace to opposing offenses along with team mates Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor.

This cache is placed not far from where the Seahawks practice and is intended to honor the Seahawks and their awesome 2013 season. This cache should be easy to find. Its not meant to be difficult in anyway. Follow the main path until you get to the first path  on your left. Follow to the fence. Then go east. Cache will be in a very likely spot. No need to trample the startling plants the city has planted in this new park. Please stay on the trail until you hit the fence and go east from there.   A nice FTF prize awaits the first to find. Sorry, this one can't be shared.

From a geocaching 12th man, I salute the Seahawks and their incredible 2013 season that was capped off with a Super Bowl win!    Go hawks!!!!!!
