Hafrsfjord Gamle Bru Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

cervisvenator: Hi

While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Nothing seems to happen with this cache listing, so it is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

Geocaches which have not been maintained or the owner has not responded will not be taken out of the archive

(This reviewer note is in English so non-Norwegian cache owners, geocachers and cache reviewers can understand what it says.)

Thanks for your understanding,

Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden near the remains of the old bridge across the Hafrs fjord.

The first discussions about the bridge started in 1889. The municipal council started up a project the next year, but still in 1902, they had not decided who should pay for the bridge. In 1906, a ferry was put in action.

In 1917 decided the municipal council to pay 3/5 of the county’s costs, and to pay in advance the State’s costs. The budged then was 417 000 kroner (aprox 50 000 EUR)

In February 1922, they started to work on the road to the bridge, and the work on the bridge started around Easter. The bridge consisted of an 300 meters enrockment (still there) out to Storeskjær (the great rock awash), and the bridge would have 5 sections. The greatest section would consist of a swing bridge with the length of 12.5 meter. Parts of the swing bridge is still visible (looks like a quarter of a toothed wheel)

The work was completed 1.April 1925
