Geocache Description:

It seems that this has been a busy year for many of the organizers. And this event almost didn't happen. But we couldn't break one of the longest running annual geo-events.

Okay, first of all, there are other events on this date (a morning stroll north of here Geocache Troy!, a noontime CITO south of here Saugerties Lighthouse CITO). So this event will NOT be the usual day-long event that we have grown accustomed to. As such, this event will officially START at 4pm and official END at 7:30pm. It will be a simple gathering of old and new geofriends to enjoy the sunset. By the way, did I mention that we got the Riverfront Pavillion?

Activities during the event include:

  • A closest to the pin (for bragging rights)
  • Evil nanocache in the pavillion (again, brag away).
  • A low-key opt-in potluck. (Post your items. Note: no grill in immeidate vicinity.)
  • Other activities TBD
  • Most importantly: Just to kick back and share stores of our geoadventures this past year and the year upcoming.

Also, please consider using part of this weekend to take advantage of the NYS Parks (Sara-Cap Region) having the passport series of caches. This park has 7 passport caches as well as number of bonus extras. Plus, there are several caches available on the Hudson River if you'd like to try them too. The water launch is a mere 100 feet from the event.

Most of the usual accoutrements are available: nearby parking, nearby bathrooms. Sadly, the pavilion does NOT have electricity hooked up to it, so pre-charge your devices. There are campsites in the park for those that wish to extend their stay to a full weekend.

Other Administrivia: Pets are allowed in the park, but only on leashes no longer than 6' and with current vaccination papers available at all times. Also, there is a slight possibility that the entrance fee to the park would be requested, but I've been to the park five times now this year and I've yet to see anything but the No Fee Today sign. I suspect that this late in the year, and with several other non-GC events in the park that day, that the entrance fee will be waived.
