Church Micro 3744...Waresley
St. James' is the second church in the village which was built in 1855 - 57 after the older church was destroyed in a great storm. The church was designed by William Butterfield for the then lord of the manor Charles Duncombe. The church is constructed of coursed limestone ashlar with steeply pitched tiled roofs. The building has a fantastic broach spire to the north that is roofed with Oak shingles topped off with a golden weather vane. When you enter the church you will find some amazing contemporary stained glass windows, polychrome tiled chancel in a geometric pattern and organ chamber to the north of the chancel.
